Honolulu, Hawai'i

Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, is the most southern and western city in the United States. Its tropical climate features year-round rainy seasons, balanced with dry ones. There is evidence of a settlement where Honolulu stands today as early as the 11th century, and many plaques, tours, and information panels in the downtown area explain Honolulu's history over the intervening centuries.

Apple Store

One of our "hobbies" while traveling is to visit and photograph the local Apple store, if there is one, of course. The Apple store in the  Ala Moana Center is unique in that there are two entrances—one from the street and another from inside the mall, where there is an unusual wall, built with local materials.

Hop-on Hop-off Bus

We've been to Honolulu several times, sometimes on vacation and at other times to attend conferences, so we've been to many of the local attractions. What we've not ever done is to spend time just looking around the city, so the HoHo Bus was perfect for us. We spent the majority of our full day in Honolulu using the bus to see the sights, getting off when there was a site we wanted to visit. The three bus routes intersect conveniently at an indoor terminal, and transfer service was frequent.

One of the routes we most enjoyed was the one that went out to the Diamond Head area, where we hadn't been before.  There wasn't time for the zoo or aquarium, but there were scenic views, statues, and beaches to see.

The evening before we ate at a Honolulu restaurant we've enjoyed before, Alan Wong's. It's always an interesting experience!
